Does this kid ever sleep at night??

We got discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, October the 10th.....and it was like riding a bike for the first time without training wheels. Except this time, we had a couple safety nets......they were called Grandmother #1 and Grandmother #2.

There are a couple guarantees in life......death, taxes, and Ajji's to the rescue. We have gotten so much help in the first couple weeks. Naturally, we had night time duties for Akhil. Never realized how much bowel movement these little 8 pound babies actually have. I became an expert diaper changer in a matter of hours. My introduction into fatherhood came as a rather rude awakening when I got wasted (literally) at 2:00 AM. Let's just say, I approach Akhil at an angle now...when changing his diaper. And...I wish it was only a fountain accident. Oh my.....A.V.C - Active Volcano Chandra.

But, the first couple weeks have been grrreat. So much support and heartfelt messages from family and friends. Little Akhil is crying, pooping, eating, and sleeping all through the day....and night. He doesn't give us much time to do anything. We sleep when he sleeps. We change his diaper every 1 hour (it seems like). What an indomitable pain he is.......and, we're loving every minute of it.

We've had to put mittens on Akhil so he doesn't scratch himself in the face. We've discovered his three levels of crying. The first is but a whimper to get our attention. The second level is more of a scream that occurs more frequently. If he gets to the third level, he's pretty much gasping for breath by the end. Everything he's got goes into that final stage of crying. All the references point to discipline as necessary only after 5-6 months. In these initial few months, it's more important to pick him up and respond to his needs. Hmm....well, we're sure to get some good arm exercises over the next several weeks, that's for sure!!

Back to work for me......sleepy-eyed and all. But, it sure does feel worth it. We were all excited about going shopping and getting all kinds of 'blue' outfits. But, alas, we have been inundated with so many cool clothing items.......we can definitely wait now!!
